Base pay range $84,601.00/yr - $109,975.00/yr

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval - award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

English Language Proficiency: LPMHCs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 – Part II – Chapter 3 – Section A – Paragraph 3.j

Education: Hold a master’s or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or both from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)

Examples of related mental health counseling fields include: Addiction Counseling, Community Counseling, Gerontology Counseling, Marital‑Couple‑and‑Family Counseling

Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor – which includes diagnosis and treatment

Grade Determinations: Candidates must have at least one year of post‑master’s or post‑doctoral mental health counseling experience (VA or non‑VA) and must be licensed to practice at the independent practice level and demonstrate the KSAs in subparagraph (c)

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to make professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendations for treatment planning; advanced knowledge and mastery of counseling fundamentals; ability to provide crisis intervention and stabilization; ability to use individual, group, or family counseling interventions; ability to use DSM for diagnosis and treatment; ability to develop and facilitate psychotherapy and psycho‑education groups

Preferred Experience: At least one year conducting biopsychosocial assessments; experience with a multidisciplinary treatment team; experience providing evidence‑based psychotherapies; experience with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD; electronic medical record documentation; experience with Veterans and/or military populations; experience facilitating safety planning

Physical Requirements: The clinician must be able to sit, walk, stand, and bend; work is typically performed in a climate‑controlled office or home space

Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor/BHIP‑SOS position within the Department of Veterans Affairs – Veterans Health Administration – Fredericksburg Health Care Center, Virginia – VISN 6

Position aligns with the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Outpatient Services

Duties include: Independently perform case finding functions and outreach; identify and screen patients for psychosocial needs; implement treatment modalities; conduct counseling or psychotherapy for individuals, families, and groups; conduct psychosocial assessments; develop treatment plans collaboratively; coordinate community‑based services; assist SOS clinic; and perform other related duties as assigned

Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (telework not virtual)
