Overview
Mechanical Engineer - R10209033 at Northrop Grumman. Location: Plymouth, MN (on-site). Travel: up to 50% of the time. Relocation assistance: No relocation assistance available. Description: Northrop Grumman seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support the International Metal Component Manufacturing team with the Defense Sector site in Plymouth, MN. The candidate should be self-motivated, proactive, capable of planning and running projects for the Northrop Grumman Medium Caliber Ammunition Co-Production team, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with inter-department collaboration. Travel may be domestic and international up to 50% during the program, with potential extended periods during implementation. Responsibilities
Participates with the metal parts teams in equipment procurement and process development with a small team (5-7 engineers) internal and external. Develop schedules and provide oversight for several concurrent small internal projects. Work closely with existing systems engineering and Quality Management System (QMS) processes to ensure proper rigor and technical acumen throughout the engineering lifecycle. Present work products at program reviews, proposals, or other project meetings. Act as a technical interface to external customers and form working relationships with representatives of external technical organizations. Support manufacturing trade studies and early supplier involvement. Occasionally step into other roles when needed. Travel up to 50% domestic and internationally to customers and suppliers. During implementation, travel may consist of up to 30 consecutive days at a time. Responsibilities Include
Develop procedures on CNC, grinding, swaging, metal finish, and other processes related to Medium Caliber Ammunition (MCA). Aid in install and commissioning activities at final facilities (often international locations). Communicate issues and status frequently and effectively both verbally and in writing. Demonstrate technical understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes. Maintain extensive contact with assigned project customers, both internal and external. Participate in customer meetings and resolve engineering and management project issues. Design or update manufacturing and assembly process documents. Read, understand, and modify equipment/machinery and product drawings and specifications in production and testing environments. Perform failure analysis of physical and functional test results when results do not meet requirements. Basic Qualifications
Must have 6 years of experience in manufacturing and production of mechanical components and/or systems. Will consider a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering plus 2 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 0 experience. U.S. Citizenship required. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area. 3 years of relevant professional experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically metal component machining. Experience working with a team on engineering projects. Familiarity with Design of Equipment, Tooling, Process Development and Manufacturing Process. Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Proficiency in MS Office. Experience with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Creo. Familiarity with automation, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Salary and Benefits
