Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled tool and die maker to craft dies and metal tools for our manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be required to interpret design schematics, cut and shape dies, and assemble the completed parts. You will also need to test the performance of the completed product.
To be successful as a tool and die maker, you should have in-depth knowledge of metalwork and engineering, a good eye for detail, and the ability to visualize structural components. A top-tier tool and die maker is able to translate ideas into expertly crafted metal forms ready for the manufacturing process.
Essential Job Functions
Build draw, transfer, and progressive dies for the metal stamping industry Set up and operate machines such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines. Build welding, inspection, and assembly fixtures per design Ability to read prints and complicated schematics in order to manufacture new tooling fixtures and machine parts. Assist with die maintenance. Responsible for performing test runs on all tools to ensure they function properly and that the finished parts are to meet print specifications Must be able to analyze 3D designs and models to be manufactured. Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances. Designing jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts. Measuring and marking metal stock for machining. Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions. Filling, grinding, and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish. Fitting and assembling tools and die parts. Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities. Conducting test runs with completed tools and dies. Look for and make suggestions on areas to improve efficiencies within the company Occasionally assist with press set-up, or other tooling support as needed Other duties as assigned by Supervisors or Managers
Experience
Experience working as a tool and die maker. In-depth knowledge of machine tools and their uses. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design schematics. Extensive experience with metalworking tools including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes. Ability to lift heavy objects and operate large machinery. Experience with quality control analysis. Excellent attention to detail. Advanced troubleshooting skills. Experience working with Prints and GD&T knowledge Ability to hold close tolerance + or - .001
Basic Qualifications
Two-year associate degree in machine tool technology, or Journeyman card, or completed apprenticeship 2-3 Years of experience building metal stamping dies Strong blueprint reading and QC skills Experience with tool room machinery Ability to work independently or as a team to accomplish goals Ability to troubleshoot and suggest solutions to problems Must be able to work overtime as needed
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years building metal stamping dies Set up and operate Wire EDM Machines Set up and operate CNC mills
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 40 LBS, lift twist, grab, stand (up to 8 to 10 hours), walk, push, pull, use both hands to lift and lower materials, and perform all other essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
