Job Description
The Electrical Journeyman is responsible for installation, monitoring and repairing the electrical systems of the organization.
Responsibilities
Plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment
Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring
Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, rules, and conduit benders
Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by helper
Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps
Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools
Install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit‑breaker panels, and fasten in place with screws or bolts using hand or power tools
Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads
Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer and oscilloscope
Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
Disassemble and repair defective electrical equipment or systems
Load, transport and unload material, tools, equipment, and supplies
Maintain tools and equipment
Wear personal protective equipment and use safety equipment as required
Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules
Rate information using personal judgment or standards that can be measured or checked
Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
Based on the nature of the essential functions associated with this role, GreenWood has designated this as a “safety-sensitive” position.
Other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Three years (3) combined training and experience in electrical work
Must be able to distinguish colors
Able to make and understand mathematical calculations
Journeyman license required which has met minimum requirements in the field (usually 8000 hours) and time in approved classroom setting (usually 700 hours)
Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
Greater than three years of experience
Proficiency in MS Office or Windows-based software
Experience working in chemical plant
