Key Responsibilities

Lead technical support and subject matter expertise for debris analysis, corrosion chemistry, packaging, and coatings (paint, plating).

Test and analyze new design concepts and solutions that balance reliability, performance, and cost.

Perform failure analysis of corroded and coated components.

Provide manufacturing, supplier, and field service technical support.

Stay abreast of current and future materials developments and technologies in areas of expertise.

Develop and maintain laboratory equipment; select and purchase chemical laboratory equipment.

Travel as required to fulfill work assignments (varies).

Education & Training

BS in Materials Science and Engineering or relevant degree.

Preferred Education & Training

MS in Engineering, specializing in Material Science.

Training in college optical microscopy, SEM, FTIR, ICP, and OES.

Deposit analysis.

Qualifications & Experience

Seven (7+) years of experience in relevant chemistry or materials science roles.

Optical light microscopy, SEM, and EDAX analysis expertise.

Corrosion chemistry knowledge.

Technical writing ability.

Familiarity with ASTM and AAR standards in relevant areas of expertise.

Essential Physical Activities

Strength – May be required to lift up to 50 pounds to assist in shipping event-related materials.

Motion – Standard repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination associated with normal office communications.

Vision/Hearing – Required to use computer, read, and interpret orders and communicate effectively on the phone; frequent communications, including both talking and hearing.

Work Environment – Position will typically be located in an office environment.

Emotional Demands – Liaise with multiple levels within the organization, including senior leaders, managers, and production workforce; well-spoken, able to manage multiple priorities and individual requests daily with a professional and supportive attitude.

Safety – Position is primarily limited to general office safety requirements; safety requirements may change based on field work (i.e., if visiting a facility or railroad) and would require the use of all relevant PPE and follow safety protocols.
