The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (charge nurse), provides nursing care to patients. This includes taking patient vital signs, assisting with procedures/examinations, administering medication in non-emergent situations, assisting patients with activities of daily living, and instructing patients and their families in appropriate care.
Collaboration with the professional registered nurse is key, including assessing patient response to treatment and providing input into the development of the nursing care plan. The LPN supports and reinforces teaching done by the registered nurse, ensuring all care is delivered in adherence to established procedures with accurate documentation. Care is provided in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, legal, and regulatory standards.
The LPN prioritizes work, recognizes abnormalities through patient observation, and reports these to the RN. Continuous demonstration of necessary competencies for the position and unit is required, along with active contribution to the evaluation of patient care and nursing practices through quality improvement efforts.
Requirements:
Current RI LPN licensure is required. No prior experience is necessary. Skills and Abilities:
Implements appropriate components of the nursing process under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Ability to calculate medication dosage. Knowledge of aseptic principles and the technical skills to perform nursing procedures. Skills in organization and priority setting. Maintains information confidentiality (HIPAA). Demonstrated customer service skills. Ability to provide responsive customer service considering cultural background, linguistic skills, and age of customers. Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines. Effective communication and collaboration with peers and interdisciplinary teams. Working Conditions, Physical Environment, and/or Safety Requirements:
Visual acuity and hand dexterity are required. The physical ability involves a variety of body movements, including stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, twisting, stretching, and reaching, with the ability to push, pull, and lift more than 30 lbs.
