Boys & Girls Haven provides a Home and a Future for Kentucky's vulnerable youth. As a nonprofit foster care agency, we Shelter, Heal, and Teach children and young adults to become resilient members of our community through an integrated spectrum of care. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The position is part of a team providing face-to-face services to Boys & Girls Haven Residential Treatment clients. Work with the Therapist, Program/Case Manager, and other providers to support behavioral and social goals developed for each client. Serve as a supporting role to schoolteachers and therapeutic staff working with the clients. FUNCTION:

Tuesday–Thursday: Variable schedule, typically 11:00 AM–7:30 PM or 12:00 PM–8:30 PM. Friday & Saturday: Variable schedule, typically 12:00 PM–8:30 PM. Hours may vary based on program needs. Responsibilities
Administrative Functions Develop expertise as a direct Therapeutic Support Specialist to help individual clients stabilize in the BGH Residential Treatment program toward discharge to a least restrictive environment. Provide the full range of support functions including mentoring and support activities for youth in the residential environment and during specified outside activities. Provide feedback on behavioral dynamics as they relate to the client’s mental health diagnosis and implement techniques with staff in the milieu. Coordinate with Managed Care Organizations to follow the approved hours and reapply for services before units run out. Attend weekly treatment team meetings. Complete and maintain appropriate contact notes on all interactions with clients and their progress. Plan, implement, and follow through with service team goals/tasks for each client. Maintain a personal daily schedule of client appointments and office time to meet individual case needs, while complying with personnel requirements. Follow all rights and policy regulations as established by the Medicaid manual. Identify crisis situations and implement crisis intervention if necessary. Provide crisis support for staff as agreed in treatment team meetings; contact Supervisor during crisis times. Create and help implement weekly structured activities with staff and youth. Facilitate groups to develop and foster youth’s independent living skills. Support activities related to youth celebrations and birthdays. Staff Development
Attend and participate in service training programs. Engage in continuing education for personal and professional growth; share and implement learnings with clients. Collaborate with staff to foster warmth, interest, and positive relationships within the agency and community collaborations. Work with internal and external providers to maintain healthy working relationships that support skill development for participants. Resident Rights
Maintain confidentiality of all client information. Interact with team members, parents, and clients in a respectful manner that supports a team environment. Working Conditions
Work in cottage milieus, schools, community outings, and designated facilities for team meetings. Move intermittently during working hours and be subject to frequent interruptions. Work with youth, families, staff, and community providers under various conditions; may be exposed to hostile or emotionally upset individuals; subject to crisis support in emergencies. Attend and participate in continuing education programs. Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, counseling, or related human service field. At least two years of direct service experience with at-risk adolescents and families. Clear communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to interact professionally with clients and families who may be unreceptive. Ability to assimilate information from multiple sources, analyze, and make recommendations; establish and maintain effective working/public relationships; plan and present ideas clearly. Ability to assess family dynamics and crisis situations independently. Specific Requirements Must read, write, speak, and understand English. Must have adequate transportation. Experience working with public and private child and family service agencies; skills in teamwork, counseling, advocacy, and crisis intervention with youth are required. Ability to work flexible hours/days as needed. Ability to make independent decisions when warranted; tactfully interact with providers, teams, and families; harmoniously work with personnel. Familiarity with laws, regulations, and guidelines governing release of information; patience, enthusiasm, and willingness to handle clients at their current maturity level; openness to new methods and ongoing improvement; maintain good employee relations and morale; not pose a health or safety threat in the workplace.
