Job Purpose
The primary function of this role is to lead the development of the international locomotive platform, including development of features that provide value to our customer’s in the international market segments with focus on long term profitability of the product lines. This will also involve managing the overall locomotive product integration for both new development and customer specific projects as well as providing sales engineering support. A deep understanding of market and customer requirements, locomotive product design, execution and product strategy development, cost target management, and validation are required for this role. Accountable for delivery of the International Locomotive Platform development projects on time, at cost, with quality Implementation of International Locomotive Platform product strategy Management and development of high performing system engineering team Directing development of best practice for systems engineering. Examples include development of Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP), resource estimates, work breakdown structures (WBS), etc. This often includes putting forth overall project strategies and documentation thereof which define scope of supply, organization strategies, project specific chain of command authorities and negotiating same with the larger organization including sales, project management, operations, and engineering. The incumbent will also be accountable to develop and implement Multi‑Generational Product Plans, (MGPP) and design programs which provide performance and feature options that meet the Critical Customer Requirements (CCRs) as well as working strategically within the business to determine what the customer values. Education / Training
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required. Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Qualifications and Experience
10+ years of locomotive development experience Strong technical aptitude; creativity, sense of technical balance, general understanding of how locomotive technologies work Strong knowledge of GT/JT locomotive product line Must have personal hands‑on experience, with complex locomotive product development projects Strong knowledge of organization structure, process, and people Essential and Physical Activities Functions • Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium‑level lifting (up to 30 pounds). • Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment. • Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing. • Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non‑temperature‑controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE. • Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards. • Safety – This is not a safety sensitive position, but may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
