Job Summary The Manufacturing Technician III (Mechanic – Packaging) reports to the Supervisor or Manager on the Manufacturing floor and supports Packaging operations. The position requires execution of setup, changeover, repairs, and preventive maintenance on packaging equipment, performing mechanical and electronic troubleshooting, and providing basic mechanical training to Packaging Technicians. The role also serves as a resource for continuous improvement projects.

Primary Responsibilities

Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain packaging equipment including pickers, sorters, labelers, packers, checkweighers, printers, inspection equipment, palletizers, stretch‑wrappers and conveyors.

Act as the first‑line technical resource, supporting production technicians with equipment startup, machine recipe selection, recipe format setup, critical sensor challenges, and production issues.

Proactively monitor equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and investigate abnormal conditions to prevent unplanned downtime.

Execute technician tasks such as startup, equipment operation, manual inspection, batch execution, material handling, rework, cleaning, housekeeping, and line clearance.

Operate light material handling equipment (pallet jacks, non‑motorized lifts) to safely move and deliver material.

Monitor incoming, in‑process, and finished material quality, escalating concerns to Lead Technician and Manager/Supervisor as needed.

Maintain batch records, GMP documentation, and CMMS entries while performing necessary mathematical calculations.

Follow safety procedures and hazards, including PPE, ergonomics, LOTO, human safety, material handling, chemical handling, and spill controls, reporting discrepancies to the process facilitator.

Adhere to SOPs, cGMPs, and established safety and quality procedures.

Other Responsibilities

Support lean activities and process improvement work, such as 5S, problem‑solving, and tracking OEE and performance data; lead Level 0 problem‑solving on equipment issues.

Act as a certified OJT trainer, conducting evaluations and training on assigned equipment or processes.

Review process documents (SOPs, PM procedures, forms, batch records) for accuracy and suggest improvements while maintaining quality and cGMP compliance.

Execute protocols for equipment qualification and process validation work.

Provide flexible support to other work areas within the Process Execution Team as needed.

Perform all assigned duties with minimal supervision under direction of the process facilitator or designee.

Acquire and maintain all required certifications and qualifications for the role.

Demonstrate strong mechanical and electronic knowledge and aptitude.

Show strong verbal and written communication skills.

Be motivated to learn new skills and develop capabilities to contribute to team success.

Work effectively in a team environment and interpret technical documents.

Adapt to changing and demanding work environments.

Some overtime may be required with minimal advance notice to support business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in a regulated production environment, specifically responsible for equipment maintenance and performance.

Strong ability to understand, read, write, communicate, and follow instructions in English.

Physical ability to lift and handle equipment change parts, tooling, and materials associated with equipment maintenance and repair.

Preferred Qualifications

High school graduate, vocational school graduate, or equivalent.

Minimum three years of experience in a regulated production environment, specifically responsible for equipment maintenance and performance.

Associate’s degree in engineering or mechanical trade school graduate preferred.

Previous experience with automated equipment.

Training in mechanics, hydraulics, and electronics systems.

Knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system such as SAP.

Experience with OEE, TPM, LEAN, or other continuous improvement methodology.

Compensation and Benefits Target base pay range: $24.00 – $36.50 per hour.
