Job Summary Working independently and with minimal supervision, sets up and operates all types of mold fabricating equipment. Reads and interprets mold drawings. Constructs, alters and repairs molds and components of extremely complex design. Disassembles, cleans, repairs and reassembles injection molds. Troubleshoots mold issues and recommends corrective actions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Works from blueprints, sketches and general instructions to disassemble, inspect, repair and assemble various molds, tools and mechanical equipment.

Examines molds and equipment for wear, alignment, broken details, etc.

Determines part replacement or repair as needed, performs required work and assembles equipment per specified drawing design tolerances and notations.

Performs final fitting operations on purchased / repaired components for correct assembly.

As required fabricates any replacement parts within the capability of available tool room equipment.

Performs the highly critical assembly operations, refitting, venting and making adjustments as necessary to enable the mold to achieve the design objectives.

Performs necessary calculations to check the mold to exacting specifications.

Operates any tool room and inspection equipment in the performance of repairs and maintenance duties or when required to make new parts.

Rebuilds worn or defective equipment to exact tolerances.

Selects and recommends tool steels for various components.

Heat treats components to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Answers trouble calls from manufacturing departments as required.

Investigates problems and recommends changes to minimize or eliminate the cause of the problem to the supervisor or tooling engineer.

Assists in providing technical instructions and training to lower grade tool room and manufacturing personnel.

Maintains equipment maintenance and repair history records, details of work performed, parts replaced and labor hours as required.

Maintains daily work records.

Keeps work area neat and orderly, works safely and complies with all BD safety policy’s and PPE protection requirements.

Works cooperatively with all areas of manufacturing and conducts themselves in accordance with the “BD Values” and the tool room “Norms & Boundaries” guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.

Observe all safety and environmental procedures and QSR’s.

Minimum Requirement

High School Diploma or GED
