Ontivity’s Professional Services Division is seeking a drafting technician to support our growing DAS team. The position requires proficiency in AutoCAD, familiarity with compiling construction drawings, and ideally, experience in telecommunications, although this is not required. This position will be supervised by an A&E/DAS Project Manager and report daily to Ontivity’s Aurora, CO office.

Responsibilities

Effectively and efficiently convert notes/design guidance into CAD.

Compile Construction Drawings in AutoCAD for DAS, as well as Civil Site Design, Structural Modifications, and Electrical Details.

Provide design guidance based on experience — able to convert conceptual designs and basic direction into clear, detailed, and accurate AutoCAD design sets.

Independently manage workload and effectively balance multiple projects and schedules to ensure timely delivery.

Accurately estimate effort for specific client tasks for PM use in budget calculations.

Effectively communicate challenges, articulate needed information, and stay on schedule and budget.

Able to reference previous projects and client standards for consistency, and to self‑educate on best practices.

Coordinate with Engineering and codes to ensure compliance with Company, Client, and Jurisdictional Standards.

May coordinate with clients as directed.

Responsible for initial QA/QC and may QA/QC other designers.

Willing and able to train and coordinate with other team members in remote offices for assistance in the delivery of large projects.

Able to travel to the site (30‑50% travel) and collect site data for field reporting and design. Represents the company professionally in the field.

Participates in meetings with vendors, suppliers, and clients.

Technical Competence, Experience, and Education

1‑3 Years Experience

Minimum 1 Year of Direct Project Experience

Technical Degree, CAD Certification, Equivalent Experience

General working knowledge of technical concepts with demonstrated development of design judgment.

Able to perform basic calculations, prepare drawings or figures, and/or draft reports with minimal oversight.

Competence in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Products, and technical design standards. Revit knowledge is considered a plus.

Experience working independently with limited supervision on routine tasks.

Able to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings, field notes, design specifications, and requirements related to telecommunications, commercial, and light industrial applications.

Basic knowledge surrounding AutoCAD skillsets such as block and dynamic block creation, layer and line type creation, job template creation, and efficient use of viewports.

Basic drafting skillsets such as building floor plans, building elevations, sectional views, equipment detailing, installation method detailing, cabling diagrams, cabling pathway plans, and equipment elevations.

Enhanced drafting skillsets such as electrical one‑line diagramming, panel schedules, AC/DC cabling diagrams, electrical and grounding layouts/detailing, structural detailing, and mechanical design preferred.

Reporting

Required to report daily to the Mountain Wireless office (an Ontivity division) located in Aurora, Colorado.

Eligible for a hybrid work schedule after a probationary period.

Able to communicate with Project Manager, Engineers, and clients on deliverable timelines to meet clients’ deadlines.

Continuously demonstrate improvement and desire to broaden their knowledge.

Ideal Candidate Characteristics

Ability to read and understand construction drawing blueprints. Familiarity with telecommunication systems and DAS design is a plus.

Positive work ethic. Independently motivated and organized.

Strong communication skills for coordination across remote teams. Willing and able to learn and train others.

Meets deadlines and/or communicates punctually when deadlines or budgets need adjustment.

Position Type

Full‑time

40 hours/week

Monday – Friday

May be required to travel out of state for multiple nights, depending on project location or training.

Willing and able to conduct site visits regularly (30‑50% travel).

Pay Range

$24 - $32 hourly based on experience
