About the Role The Mechanical Engineer II is a key role and responsible for the creation of mechanical designs using new industry technologies, leading a project team through the design process, being the primary technical contact (both internally and externally) at each step – from manufacturing through assembly, debug, final acceptance, install and service – while meeting budget, technical and scheduling criteria.
Responsibilities
Concept Development/New Engineering Design – Develop and maintain standards in the mechanical design for new models and modules. Conceptualize and lay out components, mechanisms, and mechanical systems.
Deliver to Project Scope/Schedule/Budget – Attend, support, and document Concept and Design Reviews.
Documentation – Create, review, or maintain all technical documentation for assigned projects - including but not limited to: Functional Specifications, flow diagrams, and floor plans.
Lead Design Teams – Be the lead technical contact for complex projects by providing support through manufacturing, assembly, debug, and final acceptance. Coordinate the efforts of other individuals to complete projects efficiently. Be the assembly support person throughout the debugging process.
Technical Expert and Support – Keep abreast of new applicable Provide service support for past projects. Support internal as well as customer design reviews.
Implement Product Standards – Maintain and update engineering standards.
Sales Support – Technical consultation and review of customer specifications.
Factory Acceptance Testing Support – Provide support for customer FAT activities.
Design Review – Analyze designs to increase safety, effectiveness, and efficiency as well as to reduce costs.
Process Improvement – Utilize Continuous Improvement, Design for Manufacturability and GAMP5 practices to continuously improve business practices and equipment designs.
Floor Support – Assist with troubleshooting of machine assembly, debug and resolve technical issues.
New Design Development – Seek out industry technologies to solve complex customer needs by developing net new engineering designs.
Customer Interface – Represent MGS in activities involving customers including trade shows, service trips, and design reviews.
Integration Lead Work – Integrate multiple pieces of MGS equipment and other OEM into a comprehensive packaging solution.
Agile Project Development – Participate in dynamic teams utilizing agile methodology to quickly iterate on customer solutions.
Technical Expert – Learn new and existing technologies in depth as to become the subject matter expert for other staff members.
Staff Development – Lead and Train Junior team members.
Embody Values – Support and promote the Company’s values daily through words and actions.
Qualifications
AA degree in an applicable field with 7+ years of relevant work experience with a BSME degree: 3+ year of machine design
With an AA degree in an applicable field: 7+ years of machine design preferred
Specific Experience
Creation of new mechanism designs
Linear motion actuators and systems
Machine robotics
Analysis and simulation of mechanical systems
Pneumatic and vacuum components and systems
Troubleshooting of mechanical systems
Proven problem‑solving skills
Excellent communication skills, written and oral
Interpersonal skills effective for working within a team environment
Prioritization skills including the ability to work with limited supervision
Experience with estimating, planning, and executing projects within requirements
Working knowledge on leading teams and providing direction to peers
Physical Demands
Possibly sitting for long periods of time at a computer or desk
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
Occasional walking, bending, reaching, twisting, squatting, carrying, and grasping
Work is split between an office environment and manufacturing floor, with the need to visit production facilities as required
Some travel may be required (15% or less)
Some exposure to dust, dirt, and noise

The salary range for this position is between $83,000 and $110,000 annually. Based on individual experience.
