The Position This role supports field service operation within Sungrow USA related to commissioning, warranty, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of expanding installed sites in the region. Reporting to the regional field service supervisor, the position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning support of PV inverters and ancillary equipment or systems, usually at the customer’s site or at a staging yard or warehouse. The position must comply with the Safety Mandate, “ZERO HARM,” to ensure safe and efficient work and operation of the facility for all personnel and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform a variety of technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverter and/or BESS Systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment.

Perform general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow’s maintenance and repair guidelines.

Support and perform pre‑commissioning and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems within schedule and work plans.

Perform preventive maintenance and other long-term service agreement activities per the contract.

Investigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients. For BESS positions, investigations may also involve SOC checks and component‑level troubleshooting, replacement of electrical/electronic parts, software version updates, etc.

Provide feedback to the engineering and project team on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements.

Lead upgrade or rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain the project’s technical scope and manage work schedule and commitments.

Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up system communication and parameters involving Sungrow’s controllers and F&G systems as needed.

Accurately describe troubleshooting sequences and procedures observed.

Identify and document basic mechanical and electrical issues and problems.

Perform basic corrective maintenance.

Create or modify field service procedures for safety, troubleshooting, and maintenance if required.

When using contractors on sites, act as the lead to ensure the contractors submit daily activity reports and JSA reports that follow Sungrow standards.

Prepare and submit own daily activity reports and JSA reports.

Work independently in the field and with design engineers to resolve high‑level technical issues and support investigation of root causes for complex projects.

Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, finance, and program management disciplines to maintain solar plant operations.

Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

Complete documentation in a timely and organized fashion.

Follow level‑appropriate standard operating procedures.

Own creation and submission of all field paperwork and documentation for full compliance with site documentation and project requirements.

Serve as a safety second if needed.

Education or Desired License and Certificates

Associate’s Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science Discipline from an accredited university or college.

Renewable industry experience is desired.

Power electronics experience is desired.

OSHA 10 certificate within 12 months of hire.

NFPA 70e certificate within 12 months of hire.

Competencies

Strong demonstration of workplace safety practices.

Understands and follows a safety plan.

Comprehends job hazard analysis and performs level‑appropriate job hazard analysis.

Designated as authorized person for LOTO.

Compliant with environmental safety requirements.

Can utilize and inspect appropriate safety and fall protection equipment.

Minimum Requirements

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Motivated self‑starter with complex problem‑solving abilities.

Completer‑finisher taking accountability for ideas from inception to delivery, with robust metrics to confirm success.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of partners, senior managers, and subject matter experts.

Three or more years of overall experience in a technical field.

Two years of experience in solar inverters or BESS.

Ability to work with test equipment and hand tools as required.

Ability to closely follow instructions and pre‑established procedures/SOP to perform duties of the job.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

OSHA, NFPA 70A, and electrical safety knowledge.

Experience and/or certification with MV transformers is a plus.

For candidates in the states of California, Colorado, New York, and Washington, the anticipated base pay for this role is between $36 to $40 per hour plus overtime. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The base pay offered is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to job‑related skills, qualifications, experience, education, location, or other factors related to the role.
