Position Highlights

Maintain steam, hot water heating and chill water piping/distribution systems;

Maintain ventilation distribution, fan and HVAC systems;

Maintain steam and hot water boilers;

Maintain chilled water piping/distribution systems and chilled water (chillers) systems;

Maintain cell ventilation and duct work;

Supervising assigned inmates at a Correctional Institution;

Keeping record of tool/inventory control;

Protecting the health and safety of the public, staff and inmates;

Snow and ice removal to maintain safe access for the police, medical, staff and public;

Maintaining mandated compliances with Federal & State statute and agency directives and policies by assuring humane conditions of confinement in the facility through repair and maintenance.

This position is full time on first shift, 36.25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 am until 3:00 pm.

Selected candidates will be required to attend a 14‑week paid hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development located in Cheshire, CT.

The Brooklyn Correctional Institution is a level 3 medium‑security facility. It offers extensive programming to assist offenders with the successful law‑abiding return to the community.

The Osborn Correctional Institution recognizes its stewardship responsibilities to the citizens of Connecticut, as well as to the residents of Somers and Enfield. The facility is a medium security institution that houses one of the largest inmate populations of the correctional facilities in the state.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications – General Experience Three (3) years of experience in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration trade.

Minimum Qualifications – Special Experience One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the highly skilled level.

Preferred Qualifications Experience with repair and operation of commercial HVAC, refrigeration equipment and associated controls; Valid S1, S2, D1 or D2 license; Experience with computer‑Building Management Systems and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Excel.

Special Requirements Incumbents in this class must have reached their 18th birthday. Incumbents may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license; may be required to travel.

Character and Physical Requirements General good health, free from any disease or injury… A comprehensive medical examination required upon conditional offer.
