Job Title:
Field Service Technician
Location:
2727 S Darla Ave, Gonzales, LA 70737
Primary Function As a Technician, you will perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start‑ups of high‑voltage substations. Assignments are closely supervised and designed to further develop employee job knowledge and abilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switchgear including:
Protective relays and relaying systems
Circuit breakers
Power transformers
Current and potential transformers
Meters, transducers, and power system metering
Power cables
Grounding systems
Motors and motor starters
Station batteries and chargers
Alarm systems and annunciators
Perform troubleshooting, problem identification, and analysis. Make recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs.
Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective actions taken or recommended.
Represent the company in a professional manner in all client interactions.
Communicate effectively with the company management team regarding project status and scheduling of manpower and equipment.
Make safety a top priority; the company has zero tolerance for unsafe practice.
Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent is required. Technician experience in the high‑voltage industry will be accepted in lieu of a degree. Minimum two years of experience in the high‑voltage industry is preferred.
Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of the Power Triangle
Understanding of one‑line, three‑line, AC/DC schemes, and connection diagrams
Solid understanding of the purpose and operation of current transformers and potential transformers
Ability to perform basic current transformer tests
Basic knowledge of AC & DC fundamentals
Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, ICEA, and NETA standards
Basic knowledge of various metering configurations and connections
Proven knowledge of vacuum versus air circuit breakers
Understanding of the basic operation of oil and gas circuit breakers
Understanding of PT, CCVT, and CT fundamentals
Knowledge of major components of a power transformer
Basic knowledge of motor ratings and testing for rotating machinery
Proven knowledge of capacitor banks and capacitor types
Basic knowledge of electrical components, devices, and symbols
Proven communication skills, both oral and written, to explain concepts to diverse audiences
Knowledge of protective relay types and their functions
Understanding of primary and secondary phasing
Ability to work effectively in a team‑based environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Ability to work safely in hazardous high‑voltage substation environments, petrochemical plants, refineries, and other safety‑critical locations
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Unelevated TWIC card (or ability to obtain)
Ability to pass pre‑employment drug, alcohol, and background checks; ongoing compliance with all random and client‑required checks
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time with flexibility for frequent overtime
Other Information
Work schedule may require long days, evenings, and weekends to meet customer requirements.
Must be able to work on feet throughout the shift.
Intermittent work in austere conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Travel to job sites is required.
