Aerospace Manufacturing Inspection Lead/Manager Company Overview
Our Client Company is a premier provider of ultra-precision machining and optical polishing services, specializing in the fabrication of traditional and exotic materials for the aerospace and defense industries. With over 65 years of experience, we are renowned for delivering complex and critical hardware with machining tolerances down to 40 millionths of an inch and optical flatness to 20th wave. Our 30,000 sq. ft. facility in Sun Valley, CA, houses state-of-the-art equipment, including over thirty CNC mills and lathes, six 5-axis mills, three Lapmaster planetary polishers, and two Zeiss CMMs. Position Summary
The Inspection Lead will oversee the inspection department, ensuring that all machined and polished components meet stringent quality standards. This role involves managing inspection personnel, coordinating inspection activities, and maintaining compliance with AS9100 Rev. D and ITAR requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in precision inspection within the aerospace or defense sectors and possess excellent leadership and communication skills. Key Responsibilities
Supervise and mentor a team of inspectors and calibration technicians, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement. Manage in-process and final inspections of machined parts, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards. Oversee the operation and maintenance of inspection equipment, including Zeiss CMMs, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify and implement process improvements that enhance product quality and reduce rework. Maintain accurate inspection records, including First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and calibration logs. Ensure adherence to AS9100 Rev. D standards, ITAR regulations, and customer-specific requirements. Develop and deliver training programs for inspection personnel to enhance skill levels and ensure consistency in inspection practices. Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years in a precision inspection role within the aerospace or defense industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity. High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred. Proficiency in operating and programming CMMs (preferably Zeiss), and using various precision measuring instruments. Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), AS9100 Rev. D standards, and ITAR compliance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and customers. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and inspection software applications. Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds. Standing for extended periods during inspection processes. Manual dexterity to handle precision measuring instruments. The role is based in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machining and polishing operations.
