Overview The PENTA Building Group is searching for Safety Managers to join our Mission Critical team in Phoenix, AZ. This role will be a major contributor to our growing efforts in the Data Center/Mission Critical market sector.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and reinforcement of a strong safety culture across all mission critical projects.

Partner with field leadership to integrate safety planning into all phases of construction and commissioning.

Prepare and maintain comprehensive Job‑Site Specific Safety Plans (JSSP) for each project.

Ensure plans incorporate mission critical hazards such as live electrical work, confined spaces, elevated platforms, and complex MEP testing.

Participate in preconstruction and commissioning planning to align safety measures with schedule and operations.

Conduct safety orientations for all project personnel and subcontractors.

Deliver training on specialized mission critical topics including NFPA 70E, arc‑flash awareness, lockout/tagout (LOTO), energized work permitting, and commissioning safety.

Inspect high‑risk areas such as electrical rooms, mechanical yards, rooftops, and energized equipment zones.

Investigate incidents, near‑misses, and unsafe conditions to determine root causes and corrective actions.

Collaborate with commissioning (Cx) teams to ensure safe energization, startup, and testing of electrical and mechanical systems.

Verify LOTO procedures, arc‑flash boundaries, and PPE requirements before any live or simulated load testing.

Support integrated system testing (IST) and ensure trade partners follow strict safety protocols during system transitions.

Manage subcontractor compliance with site‑specific safety requirements and documentation.

Track equipment inspections, fire extinguishers, SDS documentation, and first aid supplies.

Review compliance with SWPPP, BMPs, dust control, and waste management plans.

Interface with client safety representatives and third‑party program auditors.

Ensure site safety programs align with owner‑specific expectations for reporting, audits, and high‑risk work authorization.

Attend advanced training on NFPA 70E, electrical hazard analysis, and Cx‑related risk management.

Stay current with evolving safety standards, OSHA updates, and mission critical safety practices.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the project.

Qualifications

7-10 years of prior experience as a Safety Manager on mission critical construction projects.

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Occupational Safety and Health preferred.

OSHA 30 certification required.

CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), STSC (Safety Trained Supervisor – Construction) certifications.

First Aid / CPR / AED certification.

Fall Protection Competent Person, Confined Space Entry / Rescue certification.

NFPA 70E – Electrical Safety in the Workplace training or certification.

Strong knowledge of construction processes, practices, and procedures.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational and time‑management abilities.

Proactive attitude and solutions‑based approach.
