The Assistant Maintenance Manager supports the Maintenance Manager in overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance within an industrial food manufacturing facility. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to ensure equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and maintain compliance with all safety, food safety, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in food manufacturing, preferably pasta or frozen food production and strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

Support the Maintenance Manager in enforcing plant safety policies for maintenance employees and contractors.

Oversee daily maintenance activities to ensure safety, timeliness, and efficiency.

Repair, adjust, and maintain production equipment to ensure continuous operation and product consistency.

Conduct and participate in safety meetings and training sessions.

Execute preventive maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and repairs per CMMS schedules.

Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service procedures.

Perform line changeovers and assist production teams during product transitions.

Provide technical guidance to maintenance mechanics and troubleshoot complex issues.

Diagnose, repair, and maintain machinery, including automatic dough cylinders and sheeters, inline water cookers and coolers, freezing spirals, Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) machines, and packaging equipment.

Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Conduct diagnostic tests and operational checks using specialized tools.

Ensure adherence to lockout/tagout, PPE, and other OSHA safety protocols.

Promptly address any unsafe conditions and support a proactive safety culture.

Requirements

Minimum 3 years’ experience in maintenance within food manufacturing or industrial production environments.

Strong technical expertise in mechanical and industrial electrical wiring and PLCs.

Proven ability to work with pasta or frozen food machinery (sheeters, cookers, freezers, packaging lines).

Experience supervising or coordinating small teams of mechanics/technicians.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces and at heights.

PLC programming is a plus.

Flexible availability to support night and weekend interventions when required.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond to issues with urgency.
