Case Manager, Supervised Release Program
The Center for Justice Innovation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing community safety and racial justice. Since 1996, we’ve worked alongside communities, courts, and those most directly affected by the justice system to build stronger, healthier, and more equitable neighborhoods. We operate with over 900 staff and a substantial annual budget, pursuing three core strategies: operating programs, conducting original research, and providing expert assistance and policy guidance to reformers nationwide.
Overview Staten Island Justice Center (SIJC) seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Staten Island, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. SIJC offers pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, using an arrest as a window of opportunity to change a participant’s life. Program participants are monitored to ensure court appearance and participation in mandated programming, with referrals to services such as job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling.
Responsibilities
Supervise SRP participants according to their assigned tier and level; conduct check-ins and document participation while treating all participants with dignity and respect.
Proactively communicate and reinforce program expectations with participants.
Identify and address barriers to compliance with supervision requirements and court attendance.
Provide comprehensive, clinically-informed case management by coordinating internal and external resources and service referrals aligned with participants’ needs and goals (e.g., substance use, mental health, trauma, housing, education, employment).
Monitor and document participants’ compliance with supervision requirements; conduct outreach to participants, collateral contacts, and defense attorneys to maximize compliance.
Maintain accurate and timely data entry and case documentation; submit reports to the court within designated time frames (including compliance, noncompliance, re-arrest, and mandatory programming notices).
Maintain professional relationships with court staff, judges, and attorneys; co-facilitate pro-social and psycho-educational groups with SRP Clinicians.
Facilitate cross-team communication to identify successes, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen programming and leverage resources.
Participate in supervision and trainings to develop program expertise; attend project or community events as needed.
Note: This role is not eligible for clinical hours; perform additional relevant tasks as necessary.
