Summary Assists in the operation of automatic nut formers that have 5 forming dies and are equipped with automatic feeding mechanisms to form metal wire into all types of nuts and special nut products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under lead supervision, the Nut Former Trainee assists in the operation of nut forming machines in the department, and also:

Move controls to cycle the machine through settings, stop the machine, and adjust positions and controls to account for timing and clearance between moving parts.

Position and secure heading wire onto stock feeding mechanism.

Adjust tooling and transfer fingers at each station.

Start the machine, observe operation, and with the Lead, inspect the first run and sample work to ensure conformity to specifications.

Inspect parts using micrometers, gauges and other measuring tools to ensure specifications are met.

Replace worn tooling. Under Lead supervision, operate a lathe and grinder to recondition or modify tooling when applicable.

Perform SPC checks per specification and act in accordance with output.

Read blueprints or job orders for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, quantity, and tooling instructions.

Record data, perform data entry, maintain housekeeping, and follow safety regulations.

Suggest waste elimination initiatives related to the function and department, such as recycling opportunities and reducing paper waste.

Comply with Federal, Local, and State regulations, LISI Aerospace, and HSE procedures.

Attend training and adhere to HSE procedures, reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.

Bring any known or suspected nonconformance to management’s attention immediately.

Continuously seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives, measuring progress, and reporting results.

Education And/or Experience ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES

High School Diploma or GED

Working experience in fastener manufacturing environment

Advanced knowledge of nut forming machinery and procedures

Working knowledge of quality and SPC

A minimum of 1-2 years experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience

Skills And Abilities

Mathematical Skills: Apply basic mathematical concepts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and standard units of measurement).

Computer Skills: Knowledge of SPC and Shop Floor System applications.

Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems with standard instructions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment The job requires standing, speaking, listening, manual dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds. Vision and hearing requirements apply. The work environment is loud with exposure to moving parts and fumes; PPE is required in specified areas.
