Social Service Assistant IV (DL), SR-11, Molokai. These positions require a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.

Performs extensive field work and out‑reach functions; serves as liaison between professional staff and clients, and/or potential clients; performs preliminary screening for continued eligibility.

If Education: Graduation from high school. Experience such as reading, comprehending, and applying written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may substitute for lack of high school education.

Specialized Experience Requirement

Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in such programs as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.

Substitutions Allowed

Training received at an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.

Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college resulting in a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement For some positions, applicants may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities. The Hawaii State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, inmates detained in a prison or jail, or residents of community confinement facilities who:

Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;

Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse;

Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in (b) above; or

Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
