Job Description Responsible supervisory and technical work in overseeing the daily operations of an assigned shift in the Communications Center and ensuring professionalism, accuracy, and efficiency of emergency dispatch operations. Duties include two‑way radio communications, planning, directing, and supervising a shift of dispatchers in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Work requires independent judgment and is performed under the direction of the Division Chief or Assistant Manager of Fire Communications.

Representative Duties/Assignments

Interview applicants for dispatcher positions and recommend candidates to the Division Manager.

Plan, direct, supervise, and train dispatchers on assigned shift.

Monitor all radio communications on multiple radio channels and resolve any problems.

Investigate, resolve, and respond to questions, complaints, and errors.

Make decisions on equipment movement and resource distribution.

Coordinate technical system repair requests (radio, console, CAD, 911, phones) and initiate necessary repair work.

Notify chief officers and other agencies per protocol.

Supervise MedCom function, coordinating hospital status, Medical Director access, and activation of Countywide MCI plan.

Coordinate notifications to the State Warning Point and the Office of Emergency Management.

Maintain daily log entries of dispatcher activities, overtime, and shift information.

Schedule and assign dispatchers to rotate duties and positions.

Make decisions on responses for unusual alarms or deviations from Standard Response Guide.

Attend periodic supervisor meetings and provide input to the Division Chief.

Monitor closed‑circuit television cameras and screen visitors to the Communications Center.

Complete payroll sheets, investigate payroll and timekeeping questions.

Complete employee performance reviews for assigned shift dispatchers.

Oversee training of employees assigned to shift.

Conduct periodic tours of the Communications Center.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High diploma or equivalent and one year as an Assistant Dispatcher Supervisor with a combined total of five years' experience as an Orange County Fire Rescue Department dispatcher.

Must possess and maintain Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatcher (EFD) certifications while employed. All employees complete EMD and EFD refresher training every two years.

Must possess the Communications Training Officer certification.

Must possess and maintain Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) certification. Employees complete PST refresher training every two years.

21 college credits in a degree‑seeking program from an accredited college or university.

Must have a clear and easily understood speaking voice.

Salary Information Pay Grade: 362 – $29.99 to $39.82 per hour. FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt. Placement based on education and experience.
