Manage the operation of the plant laboratory, including ensuring supplies and equipment are available. Ensure product safety, regulatory compliance, and compliance with company standards as stated in the Quality Assurance Manual, Laboratory Manual, and Company directives. Drive Continuous Improvement efforts in product quality/performance and process optimization. Provide leadership in coaching, education and training of management staff and plant employees for Quality Assurance and Food Safety; seek assistance as needed from other Saputo training resources. Develop, facilitate and maintain the Milk and Juice HACCP program. Provide Customer and Audit inputs into the management system. Support and oversee Food Safety policies, activities, training and FSMA program compliance. Implement and maintain all Saputo quality systems (e.g., SQF). Review all product labels used in the facility and ensure adherence to regulatory and Company standards. Maintain Saputo Nutritional Database System for the facility. Ensure adherence to appropriate regulations and Company standards for raw milk quality. Supervise the appropriate chemical, bacteriological, sensory and utilization tests on raw materials and pasteurized products. Manage the product hold and release program; ensure all risk factors are considered and mitigated prior to authorizing product release. Communicate quality metrics and inspection results to appropriate managers and leaders, including daily, weekly or monthly KPI reporting to Headquarters and Corporate representatives. Ensure proper sanitation procedures are utilized and sanitation tests are performed; provide troubleshooting for sanitation system failures. Develop and maintain documentation of all required quality tests and activities. Act as the lead for local, state, customer/third party, and federal audits and inspections. Oversee expense management and control, including labor and “Cost of Quality” using Continuous Improvement techniques and a Management Operating Structure (MOS). Adhere to all contract packaging quality requirements. Collaborate cross-functionally as a change agent with all departments. Lead by example with the Saputo Code of Ethics and apply Saputo Values, policies, standards and specifications. Engage in typical managerial responsibilities: planning, evaluating, training, organizing, integrating and delegating. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a science-based field and a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a quality assurance or food safety environment. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices. Working knowledge of sanitation systems, techniques and procedures. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of change management fundamentals; ability to lead through change. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with strong organization and prioritization. Strong team leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills. Ability to select, coach, develop, engage and retain a team of employees. We offer
