This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career.

Serves as a supervisor. Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) is the state’s only Class 1A facility and the only correctional facility providing custody and control of adult male inmates who have been sentenced to death.

Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

One year of experience in any field; OR

Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who are under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Applicants who have been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse, or who engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current driver's license.

Responsibilities

Inspect all areas of supervision ensuring they are properly cleaned, sanitary, operating efficiently and are in compliance with safety, health, and ACA regulations.

Ensure officers are on their assigned drops and are working according to LSP policies and procedures.

Supervise count procedures, meal activities, call-outs, and other routine management functions.

Supervise and assist officers in handling disturbances or incidents.

Work with adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody.

Will supervise maximum-security inmates and lower level security officers.

Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C – CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted, or may be required to accept a probational appointment.

Compensation Special Entrance Rate (SER)

of $24.64 per hour. This position also offers premium pay: A rate between $1.00 and $2.00 per hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.

IMPORTANT:

This is a 24 hour facility.
