Escort patient to the exam room and get full history from owner. Educate clients, discuss preventive care (vaccine, heartworm/parasite testing & prevention), discuss treatment cost, and review doctor instructions. Fill and properly label prescriptions. Triage ill and injured animals and be able to respond in emergency situations. Place microchips, administer vaccines, and administer controlled substances under veterinary supervision ensuring to keep an accurate log of said drugs as required. Perform cytology such as ear and skin tests; examine fecal samples for parasites; perform heartworm tests. Assists in medical, surgical, and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; assists the doctor in administering anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids; logs controlled substances; completes surgical paperwork. Place intravenous catheters, administer and monitor fluid administration, and phlebotomy. Perform routine procedures such as nail trims, ear cleaning, and anal glands. Identify animals body language and their pain scale Miscellaneous duties including general housekeeping and cleaning of kennels, answering phones, maintaining medical supply stock, and other general animal husbandry duties as needed. Assist veterinarians perform humane euthanasia when required Qualifications
Previous training and experience in the veterinary field Must be licensed by the State of Michigan in veterinary technology. Must be educated in microscopy and radiation safety standards Apply
