Description A Senior Execution Engineer is responsible for in plant Project Management of installation activities for industrial tooling, equipment, and conveyance systems in the General Assembly.

This engineer may be assigned to lead or support a vehicle program or project at one of GM’s assembly sites in the United States or Canada. Aspects of the job include oversight of Union trades workers adhering to a safety program, development of the statement of requirements, financial management, scheduling and timing of deliverables and onsite labor, and ensuring correct installation methods to documented standards. This engineer may participate in activities across all ME Centers (Body, Paint and General Assembly).

Creativity, innovation, and initiative are key characteristics of this position. Installation Suppliers will work directly for this engineer, and the engineer will be directly responsible for all aspects of their work. This engineer will have independent work tasks and lead or participate in vehicle launch teams.

Required Specific Qualifications:

Technical Degree in Construction Management or equivalent experience

Technical Degree in Safety Management or equivalent experience

Applicable Journeyman’s Card with Superintendent Experience

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience

Common Preferred Qualifications

Technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines (plant layouts, process requirements, finding and applying state and local codes, and construction techniques).

High level of working capability with conveyor technologies and operational methods

0-3 years in integration/installation of conveyor systems.

0-3 years in integration of tooling or equipment cells.

High level of oral and written communication skills

Demonstrated technical and professional skills

Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals

Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms

High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

Ability to work in and with a team with people from many different organizations.

Specific knowledge of the union construction industry

Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Power point

Ability to use AutoCAD or general understanding of similar drawing software

Knowledge of Press Shops, Body Shop, General Assembly, Paint Processes and Global Propulsion systems

Knowledge of controls automation and robotic systems

Common Job Tasks

Generates technical solutions for current, new and major vehicle programs

Provides technical leadership for the Supplier

Estimates the value of the work

Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)

Implements engineering changes

Defines construction requirements

Develops Installation scope of work

Solves engineering related problems and manages implementation

Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs

Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations

Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing, GM Centers, IE, Layout team and Material

Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products

Develops and tracks progress to schedule

Manages project spending and payment to suppliers

Owns power on and supports debug and validation at site

Travels as required

Ability for extended durations of travel as required in United States and Canada

Ability to support all shifts and holidays

Location: Warren, MI- However, ability to execute installation at sites may be required.
