Position Highlights

This 40-bed med-surg and telemetry unit specializes in post-operative, complex orthopedics. Patients may include total knee and hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary, sepsis, gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses. Nurses will also work with titratable drips, chest tubes, tracheostomies, wound care, high-oxygen delivery systems, and end-of-life care. The unit is known for innovation and teamwork due to its pilot programs and strategic thinking, and its culture focuses on positivity and solutions over problems. Its nursing care delivery model is designed for efficiency and staffing models are based on patient acuity.

The culture and close-knit environment on 4/5 Lied make this unit ideal for new and experienced nurses. The unit’s leadership team has more than 95 combined years of orthopedic and med-surg experience. Its leaders take pride in helping staff become the best team members possible by investing in their growth and development, both professionally and personally.

All new nurses will attend nurse residency and encompassed in that program is a medical surgical fellowship.

Competitive Wages and Financial Incentives

Newly graduating nurses start at $36.50 with a $15,000 sign-on bonus over two years.

Student Loan Repayment program covers up to $437.50/month (up to $5,250 annually) with no lifetime maximum.

Total financial incentives can exceed $25,000 in the first two years.

Duties: RN Provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care with other health care providers to meet holistic care needs of a designated group of patients. Environment of care may be long-term, emergent, critical, acute, interventional, or procedural driven.

Required Qualifications: RN

Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required.

Effective communication skills required.

Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and flexibility required.

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program.

Based on department, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire or transfer date (department dependent).

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) OR Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) within one year (department dependent).

Preferred Qualifications: RN

Direct patient care experience preferred.

Based on position, prior experience in one or more of the following areas: cardiology, cardiac drip management, critical care, emergency department, medical-surgical, obstetrics, telemetry, etc. (preferred).

Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.

Additional certifications or training courses preferred (e.g., STABLE, smoking cessation counseling, basic critical care).

Experience with Microsoft Office applications and email; familiarity with departmental equipment and systems preferred.
