Overview
As an Examiner, you will conduct
Compensation & Pension (C&P)
Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) related to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, and by providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran.
These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive because of service-connected health issues. Our clinical insights will play a significant role in facilitating access to treatment subspecialists, ensuring continuity of care for those who need it most.
Clinical Examiners will be guided through a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system, enabling you to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong people skills, and be adaptable to changing situations. Basic computer skills are also required for this role.
Pay Base salary plus Monthly Incentive: $165,921 – $195,921 per year.
Responsibilities
Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: Perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Ten percent travel is required to include other Loyal Source Clinics.
Review and Analyze Medical Records: Assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran's medical history and health condition.
Render Objective Medical Opinions: Provide unbiased and evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of the veteran's health issues and their impact on their ability to work and conduct daily activities.
Work in a case management system: organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: Coordinate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed to obtain additional medical information and insights for a thorough evaluation.
Document Examination Findings: Accurately record examination findings in medical opinions, and any relevant recommendations in clear and concise reports following established VA guidelines and formats that adhere to contractual obligations with the VA.
Partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
Manage time effectively and ensure submission and availability for all Compensation and Pension (C&P) exams.
Ensure Compliance and Quality: Adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, ensuring the highest level of accuracy, fairness, and quality in the evaluation process.
Collaborate with QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings.
Maintain compliance with VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements.
Maintain Confidentiality: Safeguard the confidentiality of patient information and examination results in accordance with privacy and security protocols, including HIPAA.
HIPAA Awareness: All employees with access to patient data are expected to pass an annual HIPAA compliance knowledge assessment; failure to pass may require additional training or reassignment.
Qualifications
Education and Licensing: Graduate of a nursing program accredited by a recognized U.S. accrediting body, with an active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license. Not barred from practicing in any state, the District of Columbia, or U.S. territories.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
Experience in medical disability examinations or related field preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with renewals.
Previous military experience or familiarity with military or veteran communities preferred.
Specialized Training: Training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
Clinical Skills: Proficient in comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence-based medical opinions.
Empathy and Compassion: Demonstrates patient-centered approach.
Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret complex medical information.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, able to convey complex medical concepts clearly.
Ethics and Integrity: Committed to ethical standards and objectivity in disability evaluations.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous with data quality and adherence to LS and VA standards.
Independence and Collaboration: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing needs.

Eligibility: Authorized to work in the United States and eligible to work under federal contractor guidelines.
Technology and Tools
MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web-based platforms, and electronic medical records systems.
Familiarity with Teams and learning management systems is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of standing and desk work, with computer use.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds; ability to see, hear, bend, stretch, and perform full range of motion for examinations.
Travel Requirements
Approximately 10% travel to support other Loyal Source clinics; additional travel for training or events may be required.
Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Holidays clinics may be closed.
