Overview Superior Ambulance Service started in 1959 with one ambulance and has grown into the largest independent, locally owned and operated emergency medical services provider in the Midwest. The organization employs more than 3,500 licensed EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses, operating a fleet of more than 800 ambulances across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. They also provide Critical Care, helicopter, and fixed‑wing emergency medical transportation.

Our flight program is CAMTS‑accredited. We are a progressive transport team affiliated with academic Adult and Pediatric Trauma, Stroke and Transplant Centers in the Chicagoland area.

Location DuPage County, Illinois.

Hours Full Time, 12‑hour days (7‑on/7‑off), alternating ground critical care and flight shifts.

Responsibilities

Provide high‑quality care to patients in the transport environment under the direction of the Program Medical Director and the referring and/or receiving Physician in accordance with Critical Care policies, protocols and standards of care.

Autonomously evaluate critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (pediatric through adult), provide therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and prepare patients for transport (ground, helicopter, or airplane) from hospitals or accident scenes.

Maintain clinical proficiency across all aspects of the Critical Care Division’s scope of practice including neurological emergencies, cardiac emergencies, pediatric emergencies, obstetrical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, and any other patient populations transported by the Critical Care Division.

Maintain clinical competency in all critical care procedures and equipment, including ventilators, IV pumps, dopplers, chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring, Intra‑Aortic Balloon Pumps, ventricular assist devices, Impella, pacers, external ventricular drains, and advanced airway management.

Demonstrate effective, professional communication skills with all external and internal customers, including patients and their families, hospital staff, the community, other Superior Ambulance staff and administration.

Qualifications

At least 3 years of ALS/CCT ambulance experience.

At least 1 year of ground CCT or flight experience.

Current Illinois Paramedic License (or National Registry Paramedic eligible for Illinois licensure).

Current Critical Care Paramedic certification (or documented completion of an 80‑hour CCP course with a CCP‑C or FP‑C board certification).

Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Trauma (PHTLS, ITLS, TPATC) certification.

Must meet physical requirements of working on a helicopter including the ability to work in confined spaces, independently load a stretcher/isolette, and maintain a duty weight of 220 lbs or less in uniform.

Desired Qualifications

At least 5 years of ALS or CCT experience including 911 experience.

Board Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP‑C) or Flight Paramedic (FP‑C).

NRP, TPATC, and FEMA Certifications (100, 200, 700, 800, HazMat).

National Registry Paramedic certification.

Leadership experience.

Associate or Bachelor degree.

Initial & Ongoing Education Flight & Critical Care personnel are expected to complete initial and recurrent training in critical care protocols, procedures, equipment, and flight operations including night vision goggles; perform peer QA and online education while on duty; participate in regular staff meetings and continuing education (paid); obtain and maintain all required certifications including board certification (sponsored).

Salary Range USD $30.00 – $40.00 /Hr. Rates offered based on years of experience and full‑time scheduled templates. Additional earnings via bi‑weekly bonus up to $4.00 /HR.
