Speech Therapist PRN (Healthcare)

Evaluate patients within twenty-four (24) hours, or 1 business day of physician referral. If unable to complete evaluation in 24 hours, documentation in medical record clearly defines cause for delay. Develop an effective treatment plan and obtain approval for services from the referring physician. Treat patients according to the physician treatment plan.

Supervise Speech Language Pathologist Assistants in direct patient care and patient-related activities, following state practice act. Communicate with supervisor and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans. Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Review meetings, and Rehabilitation Conferences as needed.

Participate in in-service training programs for staff. Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, recertification documentation, per Speech and Language Pathologist in the Board State Practice Act and governmental and third-party payer requirements. Record treatment changes per policy and procedures.

Instruct patients' families or nursing staff in maintenance programs and caregiver training in preparation for discharge from therapy services. Participate in discharge planning. Act as a clinical preceptor for affiliating CFY/RFP Speech Language Pathologist and student programs.

Comply with the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Bureau State Practice Act and facility policies and procedures. Maintain positive, effective, and appropriate relationships with patients/residents, families, staff, and professional colleagues.

Supervisory Requirements:

Supervise CFY - Speech Clinical Fellows, if applicable, and assist nursing with training of Restorative Aides.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology; Master's or Doctorate preferred.

Proficient in computer skills, including inputting data into programs such as Casamba and Point Click Care.

Ability to read technical procedures and policy manuals.

Effective communication skills with managers, coworkers, and families.

Ability to apply mathematical concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Problem-solving and interpretative skills.

Licensed as a Speech Therapist in the state, with ongoing continuing education.

Physical Demands:

Frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; ability to exert significant force; visual acuity.

Work Environment:

Noise level usually low to moderate; accommodations possible for disabilities.
