Drafter 2 – GIS Technician (Network Underground Services)
Location: Atlanta, GA(Hybrid) Client- Georgia Power Contract- 2 Years Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled
GIS Technician with strong AutoCAD expertise
to support our
Network Underground Services (NUS)
team. This position plays a pivotal role in producing engineering drawings, updating GIS data, and supporting both the
Network Underground Design Engineer
and the
NUS Test Group . The role ensures accurate, standardized, and compliant design work for underground facilities and requires availability to commute on-site four days a week, with flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week. Key Responsibilities
Safety First: Demonstrate commitment to safety in all tasks. Data Management: Input, process, and maintain underground network data using GIS and AutoCAD. Design & Drafting: Prepare high-quality design packages for manholes, vaults, and other underground facilities. Project Coordination: Work with engineers, vendors, and other departments to resolve design and material issues. Site Visits: Conduct pre-, during-, and post-construction assessments as needed. Support Services: Provide drafting and technical support to construction, project management, and maintenance teams. Design Review: Participate in reviews and provide feedback to ensure compliance with standards. Permit Coordination: Interface with municipalities (e.g., COA, GDOT) to manage permitting requirements. Locate Requests: Submit locate requests via Georgia 811’s online EDEN system. Traffic Control Diagrams: Create MUTCD-compliant traffic control diagrams and location maps. Standardization Efforts: Support company-wide design criteria and drafting standardization initiatives. Education Requirements
Associate’s degree or Certificate in
GIS
preferred. AutoCAD training, experience, or certification required. Experience
Proficiency with
AutoCAD
for design and drafting is required. Prior
GIS application experience
is advantageous. Experience creating
network underground design drawings
is a plus. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficient in
AutoCAD
with foundational GIS knowledge. Ability to translate design requirements into accurate 2D drawings. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Team player with strong problem-solving and self-starter mindset. Experience with
3D modeling software
such as Civil 3D. Familiarity with
GIS, CYME, and permitting processes
