What You’ll Do For Our Patients
Collaborate with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.
Exercise professional judgment to provide health care services, including applying X‑ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups.
Summary The Radiologic Technologist (RT) works with Medical Providers and/or Medical Assistants with the examination and treatment of Inova‑GoHealth Urgent Care patients. This role is responsible for providing a variety of technical procedures and applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. The RT performs and analyzes patient X‑rays and reports results to Medical Providers, providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the Centers.
Job Requirements Education
High School Diploma required
Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required
Work Experience
Experience in a clinical setting preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire
State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist is required if applicable by state law
Essential Functions
Responsible for X‑ray services as needed
Under the direction of the clinical provider, perform X‑ray services for patients by applying X‑ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment for patients from newborn to elderly
Ensure patients are positioned correctly on or in front of equipment and protected during use
May need to push patient in a wheelchair
Patient Preparation and Rooming
Inform technical staff of patient flow
Prepare patients for examination, including conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history, confirm purpose of visit
Perform preliminary physical test (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and elevate critical cases to provider as needed
Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to provider
Administrative
Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files
Conduct courtesy call‑backs for patient follow‑up on care
Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed
Other Responsibilities Include
Collaborate with the ordering/treating Provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist accurate diagnoses and treatment; support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly
Explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety, and answer their questions
Accurately position patients and equipment for optimal imaging results
Select proper ionizing factors by adjusting setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high‑quality diagnostic images
Perform routine maintenance, cleaning of X‑ray equipment, and manage necessary supplies
Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols and implement ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposure to patients and staff
Maintain accurate patient records and log completed procedures in electronic systems or logbooks as required
Verify image quality and ensure images are sent to radiologists for interpretation
Knowledge
Knowledge of X‑ray procedures and protocols
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X‑ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement
Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology
Skills
Position patients properly for the X‑ray procedure
Identify equipment problems and correct or notify supervisor
Follow infection control and radiological safety procedures
