Overview Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care with support of the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:
Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
Radiologic Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.
Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area
For Pennsylvania locations:
Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire.
Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
State criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area

Rotate in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
Perform image procedures based on assessment of the patient status, service request, and imaging protocols. Monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision.
Produce images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems for image delivery and archiving.
Select exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff by shielding, collimation, inverse square law, and minimizing repeats.
Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care/safety.
Assess patient needs and provide imaging-related comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and support as needed.
Prepare contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays per procedural guidelines.
Educate patients regarding radiographic procedures and answer questions.
Promote teamwork across technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
Engage in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements to support high-quality and cost-effective patient care.
Adhere to ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH policies, department procedures, state and federal regulations, and Joint Commission guidelines.
Report equipment failures immediately upon identification.
Complete in-services and competencies by required dates and apply knowledge gained.
Position patients accurately according to established protocols.
Participate in coordination of daily workflow.
Provide clinical supervision and instruction to radiology students within program and accrediting body policies.
Ensure all vital components of the imaging process are completed in full.
Physical Requirements The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Differentiate various shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
Wear a lead apron weighing approximately 8 to 15 pounds for extended periods.
Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; carry items up to 20 pounds.
