Provides respiratory care for patients in adult, neonatal care, and/or outpatient CPAP centers . Employees may perform ECG, EEG, pulmonary function testing, & bronchoscopy and any other testing as deemed within the scope of practice by national standards.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Assesses patient's respiratory status by incorporating relevant clinical information including vital signs, chest X-rays, and ABG values. Sets-up and monitors mechanical ventilators and performs associated critical care duties such as airway management and tracheal suctioning. Performs arterial punctures and obtains arterial blood samples from arterial lines. Performs analysis of blood gases. May attend high-risk deliveries as member of Neonatal Resuscitation Team; May assess respiratory status of newborn infants upon delivery (NICU) Performs non‑invasive oxygen and carbon dioxide monitoring. Obtains and analyzes arterial blood gas samples. May perform pulmonary function testing and cardiopulmonary exercise testing after training is complete in the Pulmonary Diagnostics Lab. May perform surfactant replacement therapy (NICU). Performs endotracheal intubation, and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required. May assist physicians with Bronchoscopies, EBUS, Navigation or CRYO when each competency is completed. Performs diagnostic cardiac testing including EKG’s, rhythm strips, and 24 hour holter monitoring. Performs charge and preceptor duties. Instructs patients on use of CPAP; monitors patient compliance with their CPAP; assists with patient resupply. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities, License Or Certification Required

Must be a graduate from an accredited respiratory therapy education program. Licensed as a Respiratory Care Professional in the State of Georgia without limitations. Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Active Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) credential issued by the NBRC prior to July 1, 1999. Active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential issued by the NBRC prior to March 15, 2020. RRT credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Must hold American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

Knowledge Skills And Abilities/License Or Certification Preferred

One (1) year of experience with non-invasive pressure devices. Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units. Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.
