PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Resident with MHA (2 positions)
This residency program prepares residents to assume high-level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities. During the first year of the program, the resident will fulfill PGY1 pharmacy residency program requirements while participating in additional administrative responsibilities. During the second year of the program, the resident will complete rotations and learning experiences that focus on safe and effective medication utilization, operations and clinical management in both inpatient and ambulatory settings, transitions of care, quality assurance, management of human and financial resources, and the use of technology. Projects and longitudinal activities during both years will relate to resident’s interests in pharmacy leadership and administration. When available, interim leader opportunities are highly encouraged and will be tailored to the resident’s skills and interests. In addition, residents will complete a two-year Masters of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree in partnership with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UW-M). The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Center for Medication Utilization (CMU) promotes the safe, effective, and fiscally responsible use of medications across the Froedtert & MCW health network. The PGY1&2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy Residency program is 24 months. During the PGY1 year, the resident completes the requirements of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (Acute Care Setting). During the PGY2 year, the resident completes the PGY2 program described below. The PGY1&2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency program is 24 months. During the PGY1 year, the resident completes the requirements of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (Acute Care). During the PGY2 year, the resident completes the PGY2 program described below. Projects and longitudinal activities will relate to the resident’s interest in pharmacy informatics and technology. The resident will be exposed to electronic health record management (inpatient, ambulatory and oncology), automation and operational administration, medication management and smart pump analytics, medication safety applied to technology, design and human factors, clinical decision support, operational reporting and analytics, and informatics administration. Residents will: Complete a certification for Epic Willow Inpatient. Have exposure to multiple informatics teams. Have opportunities to precept residents and APPE students on pharmacy informatics rotation. Be encouraged to pursue external publications and presentations. Upon graduation, residents are prepared for roles in a variety of health care related informatics disciplines. Our pharmacy informatics team supports medication use throughout a regional health network composed of an academic medical center, two community hospitals and an extensive network of primary and specialty care health centers and clinics. The team has significant experience and expertise in health information technology, electronic health record management and clinical decision support.
