Hourly Dental Hygienist (10408) – DeKalb Public Health, DeKalb County, GA. LOCATION: T.O. Vinson / North Health Centers DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Community Health / HAP / Oral Health SALARY INFORMATION: $35.00 Hourly / Pay Grade J / Job Code HCT012 Responsibilities

Under general supervision, clean teeth and examine head, neck, and oral areas for signs of oral disease. Educate clients on oral hygiene and develop x-rays or apply fluoride or sealants as needed. May serve as lead hygienist. Clean teeth, observe abnormalities in face, mouth, neck, and take x-rays; apply fluoride and other cavity-preventing agents to arrest dental decay (varnish, sealants). Perform screenings, fluoride treatments, remove calcareous deposits, stains from teeth and beneath gum margins; use dental instruments. Examine gums with probes to locate sores, periodontal recession, and signs of gum disease; check lymph nodes for swelling or tenderness that could indicate oral cancer. Provide oral hygiene instructions and assist patients and families with paperwork; call schools, head-start programs, YMCA, and other partners to set up events. Coordinate and present at events such as Dental Quiz Bowls; prepare supplies, complete event paperwork, and enter data in appropriate databases. Provide dental school screening and clinical services and health education to clients and staff to improve and maintain oral health. Create PowerPoint presentations and provide education for health fairs, school career days, Red Ribbon events; present at parent–teacher meetings in schools. Assist the dentist with x-rays and exams; maintain infection control and prepare operatory trays; ensure supplies are stocked and notify staff when low. Contact local centers to offer services; visit all DCBOH dental clinics regularly for infection control; update forms as needed for procedures. Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist; provide front desk assistance when needed; complete continuing education (virtual and in-person). Maintain knowledge of infection control related to CDC, HIV, and the ADA and upcoming diseases and infections. Minimum Qualifications

Associate\'s degree in dental hygiene from an accredited college or university Current Georgia dental hygienist license Two years of related experience OR one year at the lower level Dental Hygienist 2 (HCT011) or position equivalent Additional Information
