Sonographer Lead - St Luke's Vascular Clinic
Base pay range: $43.30/hr - $64.95/hr

Responsibilities
Acts as a resource to employees and students, including training/orienting, providing day-to-day work direction, and giving input on performance. Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of work, monitors productivity, maintains appropriate staffing levels, directs efforts and provides guidance on more complex issues.
Assists with human resources responsibilities, including interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, providing performance feedback, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale.
Assists in interpreting department policies and procedures, advises and updates staff on procedural changes, identifies performance improvement opportunities, facilitates change, monitors inventory levels, labor productivity, and assists with managing department resources.
Serves as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff. Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to educate on managing patients after procedures and other imaging department processes.
Operates ultrasound equipment to perform general, vascular, and/or cardiac procedures/studies as applicable.
Reviews patient medical records to obtain necessary clinical information, gathers information from patients, and compares requisitions to physician orders to ensure exam accuracy.
Selects proper transducer and technical factors, performs scans of various anatomical areas, identifies anatomy, and provides initial evaluation of sonograms. Post-processes images and accurately labels images with patient name, MRU, and scan location.
Maintains records in accordance with regulatory agencies, enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes to ensure accurate charges.
Identifies equipment performance issues, performs QA tests and calibration procedures, reports malfunctions, and evaluates new products and equipment.
Performs patient positioning and transporting duties, including lifting and pushing/pulling, using proper technique.
Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served, showing knowledge of growth and development, and assessing data to identify age-specific needs as described in department standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration (Abdomen) issued by ARDMS, or as determined by department leadership.
Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration (OB/GYN) issued by ARDMS, or as determined by department leadership.
Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by ARDMS, or as determined by department leadership.
Vascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by ARRT, or as determined by department leadership.
Vascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by CCI, or as determined by department leadership.
Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by ARDMS, or as determined by department leadership.
Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by CCI, or as determined by department leadership.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months, or as determined by department leadership.
Education Required
Advanced training beyond high school that includes completion of an accredited or approved program in Sonography.
Experience Required
Typically requires 5 years of experience in a sonographer role.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Advanced knowledge in anatomy with vascular and/or cardiology focus.
Proficiency in at least two of the following: abdomen procedures (including urology, pelvic/OB, carotid, superficial structures, portable imaging, invasive procedures); vascular procedures; cardiac procedures; or general procedures with two of these specializations: breast, neurosonology, and/or fetal echocardiography.
Advanced knowledge of aseptic techniques.
Advanced knowledge of accreditation policies to support departmental accreditation.
Ability to act as a role model and hold staff accountable to service commitments.
Demonstrated leadership skills (delegation, team building, multi-priority management, problem solving, decision making).
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills to work with physicians, patients, and staff.
Ability to work independently.
Intermediate computer skills.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the workday.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, up to 20 lbs overhead, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
Push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
Must have clear speech, vision, and hearing.
Exposure to potential hazards (mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids); PPE as required.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
