Overview

Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our team. The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides respiratory and cardiopulmonary monitoring, diagnostics, and therapy services under medical direction to patients in a variety of care environments. Assists in orientation training of hospital staff, students and the public regarding respiratory disease and care. Provides respiratory care to patients of all ages, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Interprets patient information and understands treatment needs depending on the age of patients under care. Demonstrates understanding of the needs of specific age groups in terms of physical and motor development, psychosocial development, and intellectual/language development where applicable.

Responsibilities

Provide respiratory and cardiopulmonary monitoring, diagnostics, and therapy under medical direction for patients in various care environments. Assist in orientation and training of hospital staff, students, and the public regarding respiratory disease and care. Deliver respiratory care to patients of all ages, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, and interpret patient information to determine treatment needs based on age. Demonstrate understanding of age-specific physical, motor, psychosocial, and intellectual/language development as applicable.

Experience and Qualifications

Knowledge of respiratory care standards and protocols normally acquired through graduation from an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care with an associate degree. A bachelor’s degree in respiratory care or Biological Sciences is beneficial. One year of critical care experience and experience in pulmonary function or cardiopulmonary lab is beneficial. An active Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner license is required. Registered RRT by the National Board for Respiratory Care, or registry eligible and obtained within one year of hire. Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire. All clinical personnel in identified job codes are required to maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) training through independent study, online manikin, and knowledge testing. Acceptable training programs include the Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider course from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Program with AED. Neo-natal Resuscitation Program certification at time of hire or obtained within 6 months of employment for therapists assigned to NICU is beneficial. Active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care; experience with electrocardiography, arterial monitoring, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is beneficial. ACLS beneficial. Certification can be the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course or the American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Course including a hands-on skills practice session with an AHA ACLS or PALS instructor or by using a voice assisted manikin (VAM) system.
