Public Health Educator II - Beaufort County Health Department - Repost Repost Previous Applicants Do Not Need to Reapply Description of Work The primary purpose of this position is to provide health education and health coaching, with a focus on prevention, harm reduction, and promoting healthier lifestyles. This position will be the lead health educator and program coordinator for substance misuse, syringe exchange program, harm reduction strategies, tobacco cessation initiatives, and employee wellness programs. Duties will include coordinating, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating these programs.

General health education and promotion duties include outreach, health fairs/community events, creating health education programs for community partners and/or the public, and assisting with the Community Health Assessment and State of the County Health Reports. Position serves as the backup health educator for the PREPare for Success sexual health, school-based education program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements A

master’s degree in public health education; or graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in health education and two years’ experience in public health education or a related field; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years’ experience in public health education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License Requirement

Valid driver’s license

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and public health education activities.

General knowledge of modern educational theory and techniques in the field of public health education.

General knowledge of journalistic principles and methods of preparing subject matter in the promotion of public health activities.

General knowledge of display techniques and skill in the arrangement of exhibits.

Ability to work effectively with people on all educational levels and to maintain effective working relationships with local health departments, community agencies, and the public.

Ability to write and speak effectively and to stimulate interest and cooperation among various groups in carrying out a program in public health education.
