As a Respiratory Therapist at UPMC Cole, you’ll work with cutting-edge technology and a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care to patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. You’ll provide life-saving respiratory therapy services across a variety of patient populations and clinical settings, including the OR, ED, Cath Lab, and more. Administer advanced therapies such as Nitric Oxide (NO) and Tracheal Gas Insufflation (TGI) Perform diagnostic procedures including ABGs, pulmonary function tests, EEGs, EKGs, stress testing, and Holter monitoring Monitor patient responses and adjust treatments to optimize outcomes Assist in transporting ventilated patients and respond to emergency code situations Serve as a mentor and resource for students and fellow staff Take on leadership duties as needed, including charge responsibilities Qualifications
Education: Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program accredited by CoARC. If no associate degree, may qualify with 5–7 years of experience or NBRC certification. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience: At least 2 years of respiratory care experience required, with at least 1 year in a critical care setting. Professional Development: Complete one approved department project each year, starting within 3 months of hire. Licenses & Certifications
CPR Certification: Must be completed within 30 days of hire (classroom and hands-on). For Pennsylvania applicants: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in PA; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through NBRC; NBRC certification must be kept current if earned after July 1, 2002. For Maryland applicants: Maryland Respiratory Therapist license; Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR; Osteopathic Respiratory Care or Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT); Act 33 with renewal; Act 34 with renewal; Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
