Laboratory Technician – Lake Charles & Sulphur, LA Raba Kistner is seeking a detail-oriented, dependable
Laboratory Technician
to join our Consultants team in the
Lake Charles and Sulphur, LA
area. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for sampling, processing, and testing materials in accordance with established procedures and specifications, including proper documentation of testing results. These methods include ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, US Corps of Engineers, etc.
Responsibilities
Perform physical/index/chemical construction material laboratory testing, as assigned:
Concrete / CMU testing – concrete cylinder / CMU / core preparation and compression, specialty concrete testing, etc.
Hot Mix Asphalt testing – gradations, AC content, density, etc.
Soil testing – roadway base, select fills, subgrade, etc. (moisture/density, Atterberg limits, gradations, specialty, strength, etc.)
Aggregate testing – gradation, specific gravity, unit weight, etc.
Properly document hours worked and assist in client billing efforts.
Maintain routine calibration and documentation of equipment.
Keep the laboratory and work space neat, clean, and safe.
Maintain relevant certifications and stay current on testing methods.
Meet deadlines and priorities according to established procedures.
Safely use, store, and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle.
Build effective working relationships with internal and external personnel.
Adhere to the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and BBS programs, setting a good example of safety standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma, G.E.D., or at least one current relevant industry certification such as ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, TxDOT SB101–SB103, SB201–SB202, 1A or 1B, or comparable certifications.
Valid driver’s license in the applicable jurisdiction and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements.
If no certifications are currently held, the employee must obtain at least one of the required industry certifications within six months of employment.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to read and understand procedures, specifications, instructions, labels, reports, etc.
Basic math and science knowledge to analyze lab results.
Physical Demands & Work Environment Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift or move up to 70 pounds. The work involves hands, reach, and the use of vision and dexterity. The environment may expose employees to heavy equipment movement, hazardous chemicals, solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease, oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration. Non‑complex tools, machines, and equipment will be used.
Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel to client offices and project locations, including overnight travel, may be required.
