Overview
Facility address: 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157. Level 1 Trauma Designation. Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center. Chest Pain Center. Stroke Center. Unit Information: 5C. Beds: 10. Travel RN assignment; patient ratios: RN 1:5; CNA 1:10. Schedule: Weekend rotation every other; no call. Holiday expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays. Scheduling cycle: Every 6 weeks. Parking: Free.
Responsibilities
Variety of MedSurg cases on 5C, including cardiac and CT surgery pre-CT surgery (CABG), Cath lab patients (clean Cath) and TR bands management.
Provide direct patient care under supervision, monitor telemetry, and read/interpret cardiac strips.
Support RN by obtaining vital signs and blood glucose checks; assist with hourly safety rounds and ADLs.
Phlebotomy: peripheral blood draws; IV access: start own IVs; manage IV meds (e.g., Cardizem, Nitro, Amio) as trained.
Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, RTs, and other support staff 24/7 as needed.
Operate and document in EMR (Epic); use IV pumps (Alaris) and other unit equipment relevant to care.
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Telemetry experience.
Active nursing license (RN) and required licensure & certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement).
Cardiac rhythm interpretation, wound care, management of surgical drains and TR bands.
Ability to learn and manage medications via IVs as required.
Phlebotomy: peripheral blood draws; IV established as part of role.
Credentialing in a fast-paced, academic medical center setting.

Monitors: Telemetry in unit beds; readings interpreted by RN
Unit equipment: External fixators, chest tubes, PCAs, trachs, complex wound care
Additional Details
Orientation: Facility and unit orientation (NEO).
Shift times: 0630–1900; 1830–0700
Unit culture: Friendly, academic medical center.
Float/assignment: Any adult unit or where the traveler has competencies.
RTO: Up to 7 days with manager approval; traveler must extend as needed.
