North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) is a world‑class public high school that empowers academically talented students from every corner of the state. We offer Residential high school programs in Durham and Morganton, an online honors program, and individual virtual courses in partnership with local high schools, all tuition free.
Description Of Work NCSSM and the Science Department foster an environment of collaboration across departments and divisions and support community‑engaged service and research. The position reports to the Dean of Science and provides instruction for two sections of a course in Classical Genetics. General duties include developing and communicating clear course objectives and goals; planning and developing an instructional program that helps students assimilate specific course content and skills; holding tutorial sessions; monitoring and evaluating student progress; providing resources and feedback; modeling responsibility to self and others; and following NCSSM’s philosophy, policies, and procedures. Attend Science Department and Biology faculty meetings as available; collaborate with colleagues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience teaching biology including background knowledge of genetics; commitment to engaging gifted and motivated students in face‑to‑face classroom settings; enthusiasm for student‑centered, hands‑on lab activities and familiarity with educational and laboratory technology; interest in emphasizing quantitative approaches to science content.
