Overview
As a patient-focused organization, University of Utah Health exists to enhance the health and well-being of people through patient care, research and education. This position is responsible for performing all aspects of cardiac sonography, which includes transthoracic, two dimensional m-mode and doppler procedures, transesophageal procedures, pharmacologic/non-pharmacologic stress echocardiograms, and imaging procedures. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law. EO/AA

Responsibilities
Coordinates and prioritizes ordered exams.
Collaborates and coordinates with medical staff including, but not limited to, physicians, APCs, medical fellows and residents, and other medical staff.
Collects medical information and patient histories.
Performs cardiac ultrasound exams in accordance to department and overseeing accredited body's outlined protocols and procedures.
Participates in the training of echocardiographic techniques and procedures.
Cleans and disinfects transesophageal probes and other equipment and decontaminates the exam area.
Performs quantitative measurements and calculations of the acquired data and provides preliminary reports.
Maintains logs of patient data and files reports.
Orders and restocks supplies.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Ability to provide care to the population served.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development.
Ability to assess data regarding the patient\'s status.
Ability to provide care as described in the department\'s policies and procedures manual.
Demonstrated knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
Demonstrated effective communication and human relation skills.
Qualifications
Must meet all of the eligibility requirements of the Cardiac Sonographer II.
Three (3) years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
Active participation in five (5) or more of the following: research studies; work as a “Super User” on GE and/or Philips machines; precepting for student(s); educating fellows, residents and/or allied health professionals; publication of a paper, abstract or poster presentation; presenting or speaking at the local or national level; the accreditation process; mentoring the Level I or II Cardiac Sonographers; management training; advanced congenital echo.
Licenses
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
One of the following: Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with an Adult Echocardiography (RDCS-AE) specialty through ARDMS or Current certification as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI.
One of the following: Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with a Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) specialty through ARDMS or RCCS through CCI or FASE or ACS.
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation. This position involves intensive work and may require lifting up to 100 pounds and moving objects or patients. May be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to work around prisoners and behavioral health patients.
Physical requirements include carrying, color determination, far vision, lifting, manual dexterity, near vision, pulling/pushing, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, and walking.
