Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist (RT) II is an advanced respiratory care practitioner with assessment and therapeutic skills capable of providing care to diverse patient populations. The RT II will deliver quality care, develop, and collaborate on patient care plans with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, registered nurses, speech, occupational, and physical therapists. The RT II is a professional team member who can independently implement respiratory therapy. TEMPORARY RESPIRATORY THERAPIST RATE: $65 Per Hour (Limited Benefits) Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Provide competent, compassionate, patient- and family-centered care based on respiratory processes and interdisciplinary teamwork. Administer respiratory therapies and assess responses with high proficiency and minimal supervision (e.g., aerosol, oxygen, bronchodilator therapy, bronchopulmonary hygiene). Evaluate treatment effects, monitor patient progress, and recommend adjustments. Establish and manage mechanical ventilation. Measure ventilator parameters and perform blood gas analyses. Develop or refine ventilator care plans and communicate with the care team based on evidence-based practices. Communicate pertinent information to and from healthcare team members following MWHC standards. Maintain and operate equipment, including setup, cleaning, sterilization, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Provide education and training to patients and families. Ensure patient and staff safety by adhering to hospital and departmental policies. Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and participation in societies. Serve as a Charge Therapist when needed. Participate in focus groups and quality improvement projects. Work competently in at least one critical care area (ED, NICU, ICU) at MWH, and all critical care areas at Stafford Hospital. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in good standing in Virginia required. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program preferred; Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with 10+ years of experience or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Minimum one year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist. AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire. ACLS required within 90 days of hire at MWH. NRP required within 90 days of hire for SH; required for NICU at MWH within 90 days. Specialty credentials through NBRC preferred. Member of AARC preferred.
