Reporting to the Director of Patient Care Services/Shift Manager, the Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high-quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process. Qualifications
License/Certificates/Credentials: Current: CA RN license, BLS certification, ACLS (within 6 months of hire/transfer). Successful completion of Cardiac Dysrhythmia Recognition exam (within 6 months of hire/transfer). Must complete the Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification within 12 months after eligibility following hire/transfer into the department, and maintain current certification. (Eligibility is defined as 6 months working experience in an Oncology unit.) Must obtain National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) education module within 6 months of hire or transfer into unit and must maintain thereafter. Physical Demands: Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking Lift/position up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs of force Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching Manual dexterity and mobility Ability to move quickly Vision Requirements:
Ability to adjust vision sufficiently to perform position accountabilities. Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to the risk of contagious and blood-borne diseases Subject to varying and unpredictable situations Exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, illness) Emergency and crisis situations Subject to irregular hours Increased stress due to multiple calls and inquiries Occasional exposure to radiation hazards, radioactive substances, and biohazards Responsibilities
Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan. Ensures patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age. Provides appropriate nursing interventions. Competent in all routine nursing skills, including, but not limited to, (1) medication administration, (2) intravenous therapy, (3) management of indwelling catheters and drains, and (4) safe use of any medical equipment, such as glucose meters, IV pumps. Keeps Manager/Director informed when difficulties and/or unusual situations occur. Provides for allotted meal and break periods for staff. Demonstrates the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures. Delegates’ patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates effectiveness of care performed. Participates in activities within the organization that support performance improvement. Demonstrates the ability to organize workload, set priorities, and use time efficiently to complete work on time and in an organized manner. Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of all age groups of patients that demonstrate knowledge and consideration of age-specific and cultural differences. Modifies nursing care to meet the age-specific requirements of the adult (18 to 70 years) and geriatric (71+ years) patients. Additional responsibilities are outlined on the Clinical Ladder and are to be documented on the Annual Evaluation Checklist. Observes patients’ receiving complex chemotherapeutics and radiation therapy, and reports abnormal findings to the physician. Monitors laboratory values and observes patients response to abnormal values and reports findings to the physician. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for departmental process improvement initiatives by utilizing appropriate communication channels (i.e., through director and/or committee representatives) and implementing committee-approved changes. Provides constructive recommendations for process improvement. Maintains appropriate, confidential inter-facility and interagency communications when applicable. Demonstrates responsible role in noise reduction efforts and assists in maintaining traffic control in the department. Recognizes and responds to life-threatening dysrhythmias on telemetry and takes appropriate action. Demonstrates the ability to safely calculate and administer chemotherapy and biotherapy to patients. All other duties as assigned. Tenet complies with federal, state, and/or local laws regarding mandatory vaccination of its workforce.
