In this job you will be responsible for preparing and assembling wooden containers and packing large and heavy products and fragile apparatus for shipment.
Responsibilities
Construct non‑standard boxes, crates, or skids for domestic or foreign shipments
Select materials for packing or protection of product and the method of bracing or blocking to prevent shifting while in transit
Check orders against bills of material to ensure that all components are included, report shortages or errors
Assemble orders, count, weigh, move or direct movement to the designated floor location using hand trucks, pallet jacks or hoists
Record date and quantity, method of shipment and verify by signing initials
Mark order number on crates or packages with sales order number
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
Contribute to team effort by training others in performance of basic crating tasks as needed
Inspect all work prior to passing it on to the next operation
Document actions by completing production and quality forms
Qualifications
High School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development
0‑1 year experience working in a manufacturing environment or basic carpentry skills
Ability to safely use small hand and power tools
Experience using table and band saws
Basic mathematical calculations and accurate measuring skills
Basic computer skills
Ability to read instructions and understand verbal instructions in English
Experience reading and interpreting drawings and bills of material
Physical Demands
Work classified as Medium‑Heavy Physical Demand Level (PDL) by the U.S. Department of Labor
Occasional lifting up to 75 pounds floor‑to‑waist with assistance
Frequent lifting up to 40 pounds floor‑to‑waist
Occasional carrying up to 40 pounds up to 25 feet
Push/Pull up to 40 pounds frequent; occasional >40 pounds with assistance
Standing, walking continuous; bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling frequent; lifting frequent
Continuous gripping, manipulation, fingering; variable hand/power tool use frequent; two‑person tasks with assistive devices
Compensation & Benefits Pay Range: typically $20—$23 per hour.
