Position Summary This nine‑month, tenure‑track appointment (65% Extension, 30% Teaching, 5% Service) will develop and provide leadership for a nationally/internationally recognized meat science extension and teaching program in the Department of Animal and Dairy Science. The faculty member will engage industry partners, county agents, and scientific collaborators to develop state‑of‑the‑art information/technology transfer programs for the meat industry. The position will also provide undergraduate and graduate instruction and lead students in extracurricular learning experiences.
Major Responsibilities
Develop and lead a nationally/external recognized meat science extension program, including technology transfer to the meat industry.
Serve as a resource on meat processing, fresh and processed meat production, and meat evaluation for the meat industry, 4‑H and FFA meat judging coaches, and HACCP training programs.
Develop, contribute to, or oversee a comprehensive meat science curriculum, including topics in meat evaluation, fresh meats, and processed meats.
Advise undergraduate and graduate students, mentor students interested in industry work experiences/internships, and lead students in extracurricular learning experiences.
Provide guest lectures to support existing courses and contribute to the department’s service and outreach commitments.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in animal science, meat science, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated national reputation for excellence in meat science, including a record of carrying and publishing innovative research and securing extramural funding.
Evidence of a fully funded, externally funded, or applied research program, with a commitment to develop an externally funded, applied research program in meat science extension.
Track record of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in intercollegiate meat judging or a background in intercollegiate meat judging.
Proven record of carrying and publishing innovative research, securing extramural funding, and a background in intercollegiate meat judging.
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and meat industry professionals.
