Job Overview We are currently seeking qualified technicians and Veterinary Medical Assistants for relief positions within our ER/ICU service. These roles offer a significant degree of autonomy and responsibility in a fast‑paced, fun, and stimulating environment.
Responsibilities
Provide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians
Participate in nurse rounds
Triage incoming patients presenting to the emergency department
Assess patient stability and obtain vital signs
Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
Observe patients and recognize changes in status
Place peripheral and central catheters
Restrain patients for exams and treatments
Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
Maintain urinary catheters
Bandage removal and application
Perform suture and drain removal
Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
Basic wound cleaning and care
Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
Obtain samples for and perform in‑house laboratory testing
Assist in CPR
Qualifications & Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
2+ years of professional veterinary experience (GP experience accepted)
Solid technical skills, sound judgment, excellent communication skills
Positive attitude and the ability to work independently and with a team
Preferred Education & Experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology, Biology, Animal Science, or a related field
