$19.45/hr - $29.20/hr
Major Responsibilities
Create the initial electronic health record that serves as the foundation of the patient medical record used by all members of the healthcare team.
Prevent creation of duplicate medical records that can cause treatment safety issues and billing problems.
Follow and ensure compliance with organization’s accreditation mandates to positively identify a patient before delivery of patient care to ensure patient safety.
Check in and register patients; obtain and verify complete demographic, guarantor, and insurance information; discuss and collect co-pays and other out-of-pocket patient responsibilities.
Maintain confidentiality regarding patient personal/financial information and medical records in accordance with HIPAA.
Know insurance basics and recognize commercial and government plans; understand which plans Aurora contracts with; discuss financial information with patients; refer to Financial Advocates when needed.
Enforce rules, forms, and questions to keep Aurora compliant with government agencies; obtain required patient or guarantor signatures.
Schedule patient appointments, coordinate cancellations, reschedules, wait list requests, and recall requests; provide detailed information regarding test preparations, arrival time, medication/food/beverage guidelines, check-in procedures, directions to facility.
Perform visit closure, including checking out patients after their visit, scheduling follow-up appointments, and providing after-visit summaries.
Create a welcoming and professional environment by demonstrating customer service; greet patients, answer telephone calls, screen calls, take messages; maintain public relations with patients, families, and clinical staff; communicate issues involving customer service and process improvement opportunities to management.
Monitor and work assigned electronic health record work queues following the department’s approved process.
Assist department leadership with orientation and training when required.
Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required None Required.
Education Required High School Diploma or GED.

Strong understanding and comfort level with computer systems; technical proficiency with insurance verification tools, EPIC EMR, liability estimation tools, electronic email, Microsoft Office, internet browser, phone technology.
Handle sensitive and confidential information according to internal policies.
Excellent organizational skills.
Act as a resource to other teammates.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Position requires travel; exposed to weather and road conditions.
Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
Exposed to a normal office environment with significant patient and public contact; may be exposed to ill or contagious patients.
Must transition from sitting to standing frequently; sit and stand for extended periods; physically mobile throughout the workday.
Frequently lift to 10 lbs; occasionally lift 20 lbs or more when moving equipment and supplies and when transporting patients and/or charts.
Must be able to push/pull up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
Sensory requirements: vision, hearing, touch. Must also speak clearly.
Must use hands with fine motor skills for keyboard data entry.
